Normandy

Trip to the WWII sites in Normandy, France 28-30 May 2011. Stops included the D-day museum, the Airborne Museum, Iron Mike statue, the American sectors of Utah and Omaha beaches, the Canadian Sector on Juno beach and Point du Hoc, and most humbling of all, the American cemetary - Colleville, with its 9,386 American Soldiers both known and unknown resting here, located just off of Omaha beach, . For those who watched Band of Brothers, we did pass by Brecourt Manor several times, no stops, but wasn't anything there worth photographing.

From inside the bunker, this is the field of fire the german bunker had. Most movies show the bunkers facing forward, this is not correct. The bunkers were on an angle giving them greater killing range. Had they faced forward, the troops wouldn't have had to go very far to get under the arc of fire. But placing on an angle, the guns were able to protect each other and cause maximum damage.
